This Friday 1st of September, Alessio Delle Vedove won the second stage of the Flanders Tomorrow Tour, a UCI event of category 2.2U, by taking the victory in the sprint through the streets of Poperinge after a lead out of Axel Huens, who finished third.
The 19 year old sprinter, who already won the Kersenronde Mierlo and a stage in the Tour de Namur this season, thus obtained the tenth UCI success for the team of Kévin Van Melsen in its first year of existence.
He crowned the work of his teammates, who were present in all breakaway attempts in this stage of 158 kilometer. Axel Huens, who was part of a leading group of five for a long time, ended third in the stage, repeating his stunt of Brussels-Opwijk in which he finished second after having launched Roel van Sintmaartensdijk to the victory.
Roel van Sintmaartensdijk, fourth in the individual time trial this Saturday morning, ended ninth in the final classification after four stages.

“I am living a dream. Never would I have imagined to win three races in my first season in the U23 category. Once more it was a true team victory, today again we have worked so well together. We tried to split the peloton in the beginning, until Axel Huens joined a breakaway. When he was caught, the speed in the final 20 kilometer was so high that the peloton was completely scattered in the approach towards the sprint. Axel did a perfect lead out for me, he enabled me to conquer my first UCI victory. I am so happy. The stage tomorrow afternoon suits me also really well. But as we have a time trial in the morning it remains to be seen how well my teammates will be positioned in the general classification. I might as well work for them, this is the spirit within Circus-ReUz-Technord.”
