French Championship U23

Alexy Faure is the new French U23 champion

On this 5th of August, Alexy Faure became the French U23 champion in Plédran (Côtes d'Armor) after a dream race with his teammate of Circus-ReUz-Technord Axel Huens, who joined him on the podium with the bronze medal.

The two riders of the Continental Development team joined a group of 24 riders which was formed during the first laps on the circuit of 13 kilometer, to be covered twelve times.

After the fifth lap, with around 100 kilometer to go, Faure and Huens distanced the rest of the group, except for Maximilien Juillard. Despite the efforts of the chasers, the trio was never caught.

The 19 year old climber took advantage of the Côte de Magenta, the last difficulty on the circuit leading to the finish, to escape in the penultimate lap and win the road race solo.

After Francesco Busatto (Italy) in June, it is the second major national title won by Circus-ReUz-Technord in its first year of existence. With Axel Huens in third place on a circuit which did not really suit him, the Belgian team finished on the podium with its two riders at the start.

"I can hardly realise what this French national title represents! I just finished the Tour de l'Ain with Intermarché-Circus-Wanty, which was an excellent preparation because at first I thought I would be tired but in the end the legs responded well to the difficulty of the parcours. From the start of the race, the intensity was really high, the speed over 50 kilometer per hour. I'm not used to this kind of starts but I managed to join the breakaway. At some point, the peloton was close to catching us, so I accelerated on the last climb of the circuit. We were only three guys left, with Axel Huens and Maximilien Juillard. I know these two riders well, one is my teammate in Circus-ReUz-Technord and the other one my training partner. I knew their qualities and we worked really well together. I chose to wait for the last lap to attack on the climb. I managed to hold on until the end, I'm so happy."
