The general classification in the Tour de Suisse was shuffled this Thursday, in a fifth hilly stage in the south of the country and still in very hot weather conditions. The second race half contained four climbs around Mendrisio, which all had to be covered three times.
Domenico Pozzovivo, who raced close to his home Morcote, was present when the favorites accelerated on the last ascension of Pedrinate. A group of fifteen riders isolated itself on the top of this penultimate climb and at the end of an uphill finish, the Italian rider took twelfth place.
His performance of the day enables him to approach the top ten of the general classification. He is fourteenth provisionally before two decisive mountain stages and the closing time trial in Liechtenstein.
