For the second consecutive day, an explosive final decided about the outcome of the stage in the Tirreno-Adriatico (2.UWT). This Friday, the muro di Fermo (3.2km at 6%) welcomed the finish of stage 5 after 155 kilometer.
For more than an hour, attacks succeeded each other in order to form the early breakaway. Both Alexander Kristoff and Lorenzo Rota participated in the battle and in the end a group of twelve riders managed to escape after 40 kilometer and built an advantage of more than 4 minutes.
Just like the day before, Domenico Pozzovivo and Lorenzo Rota accompanied the best riders on the climbs Monte Murano, de Capodarco, and two categorized climbs in the streets of Fermo before the steep climb towards the finish. The Italian riders finished respectively 14th and 23rd. In the general classification, Pozzovivo continues his progression and is currently 16th, Rota is 21st.
